Construction Updates for downtown businesses

Roads by Central Campus re-opening to the public this week
Post Date: Aug 02 2017
Three blocks of roadway are scheduled to reopen to the public in the next day or two, as contractors on Phase 3 of the Downtown Infrastructure Improvement Project are putting the finishing touches on the new concrete. Two blocks of Third Avenue SE and one block of Second Street SE will be the first to re-open to the public from the third and final phase of the overall downtown revitalization project. City staff responsible for the downtown project say it’s exciting to see the last few months of work on a project that has lasted more than four years in design and construction.

“It feels like we are getting close to the home stretch on this massive undertaking,” said City Engineer Lance Meyer. “With the contractor and their subcontractors working on the roadway, sidewalks, and streetscape elements the project is nearing an end. We have been grateful for all those people who have continued to support the downtown during this time – and now with the new roads, sidewalks, benches, flowers and other items the downtown is truly looking great!”

Wagner Construction, the general contractor for phase three, has eight blocks and one intersection left to finish on their overall job.

Some of the best ways to get downtown are by using Main Street off Burdick Expressway, Second Avenue or First Avenue from either side of downtown, and Central Avenue from the east side of downtown.
